The Father of the Modern Lifestyle - James Clerk Maxwell

January 18th, 2010 · No Comments

By Sinclair McLaren

James Clerk Maxwell was born in Edinburgh in 1831, and was one of the premier engineers of his day, educated at Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh University and then onto Cambridge University and at the age of 25 was appointed a professor at Aberdeen University and at 15 years younger than his peers became the head of his department.

In the day it was the mechanical engineers who were getting all the accolades, for their bridge building and machine inventing exploits. They were the engineers who made news, the superstars of their day. Telford, Brunel and Stehenson ruled the world.

Engineers such as Maxwell never made big news, but his contribution was hugely understated and is still undervalued today.

The accomplishments of James Clerk Maxwell never made him a famous name in his day and it is time we give him the credit he is due.

Engineers such as James Watt (1736-1819), Thomas Telford (1757-1834) and John Loudon McAdam (1756-1836) put Scotland on the map for engineering excellence, and a century later Scottish engineers such as Alexander Graham Bell and John Logie Baird kept the reputation of great Scottish engineers alive.

Many do not know that it was the work done by James Clerk Maxwell between these two periods that gave both Bell and Baird their moments of greatness.

It was the work Maxwell produced on electromagnetism that allowed radio waves, gave us microphones and speakers, microwaves and X-rays.

Because of the work of Maxwell: - Planes do not crash into one another because of radar. It was the radar systems that helped the allies win the Battle of Britain in the second world war.

We can talk to each other all over the world with telephones; we can talk on mobile telephones from anywhere.

We can watch hundreds of TV channels, go onto the internet.

X-rays can see our skeletons for broken bones and, and CAT scans see our organs.

We can get a suntan without even going into the sun, while we listen to CD's and music on MP3 players.

Satellite navigation systems help ships traverse the seas, brings electronic goods from across the world.

Computers have changed our lives. We can't live without them now.

All our modern day life is a result of his work.

If not for the work of a certain James Clerk Maxwell what would the world be today?

We should pay him the respect he is due, for James Clerk Maxwell IS the farther of modern living.

Tallest Building In The World - Burj Dubai

January 4th, 2010 · No Comments

Today’s the day Emaar Properties unveils Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest building, a 818 m skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The world’s first “vertical city” is online at www.burjdubai.com, where visitors from around the world are provided with an in-depth introduction to every aspect of life, work and leisure inside the world’s first ‘Vertical City’.

The new building breaks several international records, including tallest structure to top of spire (previously Taipei 101), top of roof (previously Taipei 101), top of antenna (previously the Willis Tower), tallest structure ever built (previously Warsaw radio mast), tallest freestanding structure (previously CN Tower), building with most floors 160 (previously World Trade Center 1 & 2 had 110), world’s highest elevator and world’s fastest elevators, highest vertical concrete pumping for any construction, tallest structure in history to include residential space, highest outdoor observation deck in the world, and highest installation of an aluminium and glass facade (512 metres)

The tower is composed of three elements arranged around a central core. The modular, Y-shaped structure, with setbacks along each of its three wings provides an inherently stable configuration for the structure and provides good floor plates for residential. Twenty-six helical levels decrease the cross section of the tower incrementally as it spirals skyward. The central core emerges at the top and culminates in a sculpted spire. A Y-shaped floor plan maximizes views of the Arabian Gulf. Viewed from the base or the air, Burj Dubai is evocative of the onion domes prevalent in Islamic architecture.

Thomas Kinkade Biography

December 20th, 2009 · No Comments

Thomas Kinkade grew up in Northern California in the small town of Placerville. Though the family did not have wealth, Kinkade often says they were “rich in the greatest form of wealth; a nurturing and affirming love.” His first “collector” was his mother, who would frame his childhood drawings and use them to decorate the family home.

Kinkade is America’s most collected living artist, a painter-communicator whose tranquil, light-infused paintings bring hope and joy to millions each year. Each painting that Thomas Kinkade creates is a quiet messenger in the home, affirming the basic values of family, faith in God, and the luminous beauty of nature.

Thomas Kincade is a devout Christian and credits the Lord for both the ability and the inspiration to create his paintings. His goal as an artist is to touch people of all faiths, to bring peace and joy into their lives through the images he creates. The letters he receives every day testify to the fact that he is achieving this goal.

A devoted husband and doting father to their four little girls, Thomas Kinkade hides the letter “N” in his paintings to pay tribute to his wife, Nanette. The girls also find their names in many of his paintings.

Thomas Kincaid is renowned for infusing light into his paintings, creating romantic and tranquil scenes. Known as “the Painter of Light,” Kinkade has an almost uncanny ability to recreate dramatic effects of pictorial lighting in a way that makes the image seem to glow from within. This famous “Kinkade glow” might help explain Kinkade’s popularity as a published artist. The creations of Thomas Kinkade have become a phenomenon unprecedented in recent times, with countless millions of “Kinkade Collectors” worldwide.

Thomas Kinkaid has received numerous awards for his works, including the 1995 Lithograph of the Year Award and 1995 Artist of the Year from the National Association of Limited Edition Dealers (NALED) and the 1994 Collector Editions Award of Excellence. NALED has named him as Graphic Artist of the Year six times and his works have been named Graphic Art Print of the Year eight times. Kinkade has also won the Collectors Editions Award of Excellence and was a charter inductee to the Bradford Exchange’s Plate Artist Hall of Fame.

Thomas Kinkade was honored, along with idol Norman Rockwell, as a charter inductee into The Bradford Internation Hall of Fame for plate artists. He is regularly featured in well-known magazines and as a guest on popular TV network shows and radio talk shows throughout the country. Further, his paintings have been the subject of two major art books, Thomas Kinkade: Painter of Light (Lightpost Publishing 1993) and Thomas Kinkade: Paintings of Radiant Light (Abbeville Press 1995). Another book, Simpler Times, shares the artist’s inspiring philosophy of a life based on family, home and faith in God. This philosophy undergirds all of Kinkade’s art.

Cheapest Return Flights To Desired Destination - How To Find It

October 30th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Nothing gets in the way of an amazing vacation like exorbitant prices on airfare. Who wants to blow 60 percent of their holiday budget just for transportation to their destination of choice? To make things even worse, we all know that practically every seat on the plane is sold at a different price. The passenger next to you might have paid a couple hundred bucks less for his seat, which to reasonable people makes no sense at all. But instead of fighting this unusual fee structure, you can use it to your advantage to get the cheapest return flights possible when you fly.

Here are a few tips on how to do just that.According to conventional wisdom, you won't find the best prices by booking directly from the airlines themselves. While this may have been true a decade ago, that's not always the case anymore. On many occasions, you can find the cheapest return flights right on the carrier's own website — especially for international flights or those originating from outside the United States.

So in your search for the lowest airfares, don't neglect the carriers themselves just because that's what you were taught to do a long time ago.Of course, there are also a lot of discount travel sites now that have a searchable database of the cheapest return flights to your desired dstinantion available, so you should also focus on these places. But it's important to note that increasing competition and higher prices overall mean that the discounts aren't as deep as they used to be.

So if you're expecting dirt-cheap fares at Expedia or Travelocity, you will probably be disappointed. Yes, the prices will probably be lower than at regular travel agencies, but they won't be a steal. There are other techniques you can use to find the cheapest return flights. Many experts recommend searching for fares on Wednesday or booking as close to your departure date as possible. Little things like that in combination with diligent monitoring of the discount travel websites mentioned above can yield the savings you're looking for. Bon voyage!

Halloween Costumes For Infants

October 21st, 2009 · No Comments

There are many firsts in the life of each child. When you think about each of these, your child can not do much to participate, but you want to have good memories to share with them in the future. Some like to get Halloween costumes for infants, even if that child is not going to go out and do anything on that day. Some of these are really cute, and most are safe, but you do have to be careful. You may only put the outfit on your baby for a few minutes to take pictures, but in the long run, you will be glad that you took the time to do it.When you think of Halloween costumes for infants, you probably think of the traditional costume that goes with the theme of Halloween.

You probably do not want to dress your infant up in something scary, but rather, something cute and potentially cuddly. After all, what is more fun that cuddling your baby? Some of these costumes for infants come in very simple yet very cute designs. Some are form fitting and some are not, just remember that you do not want any hanging pieces they could put into their mouths or any closures that could hurt your baby. Most are made well, but check them out anyway.

Your baby is not going to have a preference, but if they are very young, remember how well they can see. They may see a lot in contrast, black, white, and red, but not much else. That means you may want to find Halloween costumes for infants that incorporate these colors. They may have more fun looking at that costume and feeling it with their hands and skin than wearing it, so get something with an interesting texture as well. Halloween is often a cooler time of year, so make sure your child will be warm if you do intend to take them out with you for trick or treating when taking older children.

There are some crafty people that can make their own Halloween costumes for infants. If you are one of these people, keep a few things in mind. You want something that fits, but tight is not a good idea. Your baby will be uncomfortable at best. Use materials like cotton that breathe, but that can also keep them warm. You want to have reflective materials somewhere on the costume, or on your stroller if you will be pushing them in one. Also, make sure everything is securely attached so baby does not pull pieces off to put into his or her mouth.

You can find a wide range of Halloween costumes for infants online if you do not want to make one on your own. Most companies will have what you need, but order early so that you know your choice will be available and that it will get to you in time for the holiday. If it comes late, it will be too small to use the next year. Pay attention to materials and small parts, and order a bit big if you are not sure the costume is going to fit.

How to Keep Your Relationship Fresh

October 20th, 2009 · No Comments

by Howey Lacus
Relationships can change over a period of time. Most of the times, it just because of the people involved in the relationship have gotten used to one another and things start falling into a daily routine which can lead to problem if the routine continues over an extended period of time.

Here are some relationship tips to help you keep the spark in your relationship going.

Joint Activities: Participate in an activity that you both enjoy taking part it in. It could be theater, dancing, concerts, etc. Start taking time to do more of these things together. In the beginning, it may be difficult fit into your schedule because of being busy with work along with having other things to do as well. Anyway, spending the time together with the other person doing something you both enjoy will pay big dividends and will help improve the relationship.

Spontaneity: Women usually complain that their partner rarely does anything romantic. Here are something to do to prevent the woman in your life from saying that to you. Nothing says I love and/or care about you more than a gesture without having any reason for doing it.

The first way would be having her favorite flowers delivered to her job with a card attached saying that you were thinking about her. Another way to be spontaneous would be to call her in the middle of the day just to say that you love her and see how her day is going. It may take only a couple minutes to do, but she'll be happy for the rest of the day.

You may also plan romantic trips every so often to places where you know she would like to go. Doing these things may seem insignificant but they will attract her attention simply because it shows that you are not taking her for granted. While women and men are different in numerous ways, they both like to be shown that they are appreciated and doings these things will show her exactly that.

Relationships, like anything else worth having, take constant commitment, sacrifice, and dedication. However, if you are not careful, your relationship will become routine if you dont continuously take the time to invest in it.

Spending more time together doing activities that you both enjoy along with spontaneous acts is just a couple of tips to ensure that your relationship will always be fresh.

LeapFrog Text and Learn - A Blackberry For Babies?

October 19th, 2009 · No Comments

By Lec Watkins

The New LeapFrog Text and Learn is built to resemble a PDA or BlackBerry. Now, the adults out there will note that it is over-sized, curvy, chunky and bright green. But in the eyes of the average two year old it is very PDA like indeed. After all it has a large screen and a full QWERTY keyboard.

Because it looks like a grown up gadget the little ones will love it. But, this is still most definitely an educational toy for little ones. A cute onscreen character called Scout the Pup helps your kids develop their keyboard skills, learn the alphabet, learn about shapes and learn to browse and follow directions. All through silly songs, games and animations.

You might not like it as much as your BlackBerry but the toddler in your life just might. At only around $20 this is one educational toy that does not break the bank. Nevertheless it does take its educational credentials seriously. By registering the product at the manufacturer's website you gain access to the LeapFrog Learning Path. This is full of useful hints, tips and suggestions to steer your children on the path to learning skills they will need in their future.

The LeapFrog Text and Learn has had mixed reviews. It is incredibly popular with many, and definitely a great learning tool. But, if your child already has a mobile phone and Nintendo W11 they probably won't be impressed, which makes sense. This is designed for toddlers who are yet to experience the full range of electronic gadgetry out there. A taster if you will to help them copy their parents with their own version.

The LeapFrog Text and Learn is a winner and appears to be the Blackberry for Babies, but only for those toddlers who do not already have the real thing.

For more information and cheap sources of LeapFrog Text and Learn, and the Best LeapFrog Toys visit the LeapFrog Toys site.
