I have a very contemporary home that is just begging for updated touches in every nook and cranny. From the simple black table and chairs in my dining room to the bleached wood and sleek metal accents that grace my family room, I am an uptown girl through and through. I love the simplicity, functionality, and beauty of this style of decorating.When it was time to shop for seating for my kitchen, I knew I wanted modern bar stools. I was looking for something that would coordinate with my stainless steel appliances, cherry cabinets, and funky lighting, all while adding the extra eating area that I needed.

Modern bar stools would provide a spot for my kids to hang out while I was cooking and offer a place to grab a quick bite on the run.There are some fabulous modern bar stool designs out there, but many of them didn't quite fit the bill in what I was looking for. I really loved the look of a basic chrome model like the ones you would find in the old-fashioned soda shops. However, the lack of a back on the chair made me think that the time spent on it wouldn't be quite as comfortable as I would like.

So I just decided to keep an open mind and see what other kinds of designs would be suitable for my home. Some of the modern bar stools I saw had a very low back and a few designs had none at all — like the soda shop style. I guess those are very popular with other people, but I know my kids wouldn't be able to sit in something like that for very long. I kept on shopping, and was amazed by all the fun colors and cool designs, with fabrics that ranged from wood and metal to vinyl and leather covered seat pads. Many of these modern bar stools also featured swiveling action, which was sure to be a hit with my clan.

I eventually chose some high-backed modern bar stools that look like a taller version of the chairs in my dining room.  They are ergonomically designed with straight, simple lines in a contemporary wood tone. The seats are covered in rich black leather that is the perfect contrast to the pale wood frame, and provides the highest level of comfort for my family and guests. I love my new modern bar stools, and am thrilled with the way my kitchen looks with these new additions!
